What’s Really Real? | A Christ-Centered Christmas

It has happened to all of us. It was more than likely around the age of 10. Someone at school, or some cousin or sibling decided we needed to know the truth…the REAL truth. There is no Santa Claus.

My niece just had the hard task of telling her daughter Santa is not real. I was told she did a great job of gently breaking the news. She started with how Santa represents the spirit of Christmas…the giving and love we share this time of year. She even told her the story of St Nicholas, a Christian who lived centuries ago that was known for being generous, even giving gifts to children. And yes, she talked about Jesus being a gift that was given to us, the Savior of the world.

I am not sure her daughter was convinced the jolly old guy was not real. But she had reached the age where she was questioning the validity of a man traveling the world in one night and shoving himself down thousands of chimneys to deliver gifts to good little boys and girls.

All jokes aside, it is hard when we find out something we believed in is not real. Unfortunately, we live in a world where scams are alive and well. And our age group is their prime target! It’s everything from insurance, to products, to relationships. Even Reality Shows are not reality! The bottom line is, it’s hard to discern what is real and what is not.

If you don’t mind, let’s take a reality check.

This is real…the world we live in is in trouble. And it has been for a very long time…back to the Garden of Eden, actually. As individuals, we are in trouble, too. That trouble is called sin.

Is there a solution for this trouble and sin?

Yes, Jesus Christ is the solution.

You see, He came to fix that which was wrong. The world was and is full of sin. It was not functioning as it was meant to function. And Jesus came to pay the price, be the sacrifice, to save the world.

That is real. Jesus is real. His forgiveness is real.

This forgiveness is based on what Jesus did for you and me. He took the punishment for our sins. He was born to forgive you. And this forgiveness brings us a Real Savior…who really died for us and who really rose from the grave to give us eternal life.

There is a lot in our world that is not real. The Good News is…Jesus is the Real Thing!
